HOPE Through Music

Music is one of life’s greatest joys, one we hope to share with as many children as possible.

HOPE Through Music is a music education mentorship that provides free, one-on-one music instruction to students who wouldn’t otherwise have access to private lessons. The program is set to launch in 2021 as a partnership between the nonprofit company Helping Our People Evolve inc (HOPE) and PS 173, an elementary school in Washington Heights. HOPE incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in New York State in 2018.

We operate at the In The Gray Inc music studio in Washington Heights, not too far from PS 173. Our instructor is a local NYC native who has been working within the music industry professionally for over 15 years and received extensive hands-on music training with many world renowned artists. He is a talented musician who loves sharing what he’s learned with a student who wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to learn it in an individualized, one on one classroom environment.

Students will range from K-5. Since many of the schools in the neighborhood have little to no arts education budget, we plan on offering these classes free of charge. Students will have the option to learn from a variety of subjects that our teachers can offer such as sound editing, music mixing, sound recording, piano lessons, guitar lessons, voice lessons, video editing and music production.

Outside the lesson room, our students will have the opportunity to share their hard work with their families, communities, and friends during our yearly recital. We hope to partner with other organizations and schools and plan on taking our students on trips to concerts at places like Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Radio City Music Hall as well as workshops around the city.

We’ve launched HOPE Through Music to support our national musical treasure, and to share that treasure with the next generation of young musicians.

Students are primarily from under-resourced backgrounds and Title I schools.
